How do I know if counselling is right for me?

What's the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

What happens in the first session?

It varies. Some people benefit from a few months, others from longer-term work. We'll regularly review progress and adjust frequency to suit your needs.

Yes, confidentiality is fundamental. Everything you share remains private, with limited legal exceptions around serious harm to vulnerable people, immediate safety risks, or court orders.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes, I offer both in-person and online sessions via secure video call. Online therapy can be just as effective, and we can discuss what mix works best for you.

What if I don't know what to talk about?

This is completely normal. You don't need to prepare anything. I'll guide our conversations with gentle questions, and even silence can be a useful part of the process.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

I ask for at least 48 hours' notice. Cancellations with less notice are charged at the full session fee, though I understand emergencies happen.

How much do sessions cost?

Therapy sessions are £85 for 50 minutes. I keep a small number of reduced-fee spaces for those facing financial hardship. Clinical supervision is £60-£80 per hour.

Do you take insurance?

Yes, I'm registered with BUPA, AXA, WPA, AVIVA and Healix. I'll need your membership number and authorisation code, and any excess is paid directly to me.

I work integratively, drawing from person-centred, trauma-focused and EMDR approaches depending on what suits you best. You're always in control of the pace and direction.

What is EMDR therapy?

EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that helps your brain process traumatic memories using bilateral stimulation. It's recommended by NICE for PTSD and can bring significant relief within 6-12 sessions.
