Empowering You to Live Beyond Your Past

Kate Ramsay, BACP Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist in Hertfordshire

Whether you're carrying the weight of something that happened long ago, or struggling with something unfolding right now, therapy can help. I work with adults experiencing complex trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and life transitions — bringing 18+ years of experience and specialist trauma training to every session.

I have particular experience and training to work with adults who have experienced significant or complex trauma in their lives.

What matters is you. We will work together, at your pace, finding a way to connect and engage safely and helpfully.

I offer person-centred, humanistic based counselling and psychotherapy. I believe in recognising and working with difference and acknowledge the impact of living in a world that may not. In our work together, you'll find a collaborative partner who listens without judgment and supports you in developing the insights and skills needed to create meaningful change. I work with adults over 18 years old.

    My Approach

I work integratively, which means I draw from different therapeutic approaches depending on what feels right for you. My core training is in person-centred and humanistic theories — I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to offer a safe, non-judgemental relationship where you can explore your experiences at your own pace.

I've also completed extensive specialised training in trauma-informed approaches, including Level 7 qualifications in trauma-focused therapies. This means I understand how past experiences can shape your present, and I'm equipped to work gently and safely with difficult memories and emotions.

Above all, I believe the relationship between us is the foundation of meaningful therapy. Research consistently shows that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is the most important factor in good outcomes, and I aim to create a warm, authentic connection where you feel truly heard and understood.

    About Me

My route into counselling wasn't a straight line. I spent years working in IT training as a sales manager — a world focused on performance, targets, and what people could produce. What I kept noticing was the human cost of that pressure, and how rarely people were given space to simply be themselves.

It was lived experience that eventually brought me to trauma work. I know from the inside what it means to carry something heavy, and how transformative it can be to finally have a space where you don't have to perform, explain yourself, or be who others expect you to be.

That belief sits at the heart of how I work. I'm not interested in fitting you into a framework or telling you who you should become. What matters to me is you — your particular life, your particular story, your particular pace.

Outside the therapy room, I find restoration in nature and in people. Both remind me that things grow in their own time, in their own way.

If any of this resonates, I'd love to hear from you.
