My Approach

Grounded in Evidence, Guided by You

I believe that effective therapy is not one-size-fits-all. I draw from multiple evidence-based modalities and work with you to address your specific needs, goals, and preferences.

    What to Expect

Sessions are 50 minutes long and typically take place weekly, though we can discuss what frequency feels right for you. I offer both in-person sessions at my therapy room in Knebworth, Hertfordshire, and online sessions via secure video call.

In our first session, we'll gently explore what's brought you to therapy and what you're hoping for. There's no pressure to share more than feels comfortable — we'll go at your pace. I'll explain how I work and answer any questions you have, and by the end we'll both have a sense of whether we feel like a good fit to work together.

The length of therapy varies from person to person. Some people find that a few months helps them work through a specific issue, whilst others benefit from longer-term work. We'll regularly review how things are going and what feels right for you.

    Specialist Approaches

Alongside integrative counselling, I draw on several specialist approaches depending on what feels most helpful for you:

    Trauma Informed Psychoeducation

Understanding what's happening in your brain and body can be a powerful part of healing. I offer psychoeducation around trauma responses, the nervous system, and how past experiences shape present-day reactions. This understanding can help normalise your experiences and gives you tools to work with your responses rather than feeling controlled by them.

    Somatic Awareness Psychotherapy

Our bodies hold the imprint of our experiences, particularly trauma. Somatic awareness work helps you tune gently into bodily sensations and draw on the wisdom of your body as part of the healing process. This might include noticing where you hold tension, learning to settle your nervous system, and developing a more compassionate relationship with your physical self.

    Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

Drawing from mindfulness practices, I can support you to develop present-moment awareness and learn to respond rather than react to difficult thoughts and feelings. These techniques can be particularly helpful with anxiety, stress, and rumination, and can be woven into our work together as feels right.

    EMDR Therapy

I also offer EMDR therapy for those who would benefit from this evidence-based approach to processing trauma and distressing memories. We can explore together whether this might be helpful as part of our work.

    Testimonials

    What Clients Say

"Working with Kate has been truly transformative. Thank you, I am and always will be work in progress but I feel much more able to manage the impact of my past experiences."

    Therapy Client

"When I first began my sessions with Kate, I was in a very bad place. Wracked with anxiety that manifested in the form of dizzy spells and suffering from severe depression, I found opening up to people incredibly difficult and could not see any sort of future for myself or any light at the end of the tunnel. However, Kate's gentle encouragement, compassion and constant faith in me utterly transformed my life for the better. I cannot express enough how grateful I am to her and how she has helped me in so many ways."

    Therapy Client

"I came to Kate stuck in trauma, reliving memories daily. Over the year we worked together, it was hard work but one of the best things I have ever done for myself. Memories are just memories - they feel manageable and I can live my life again."

    Therapy Client

"Kate has supported me from newly qualified counsellor to confident practitioner. I always look forward to and enjoy our time together and feel so understood and supported."
